the a side * sense of doubt* is a bit more stripped down and melodic, as the b side and also the title track of this release * subterraneans* is more of a jazzy house groove, that simply doesn’t stop rolling and keeps the tension with subtle variations and other nice little gimmicks. as always we truly hope that you enjoy these tracks as much as we do and we are happy to have daniel back on board as for sure he can be called one of germanys top notch producers.

kyle geiger returns on his home label with a set of tracks designed to recapture the basic function of techno. it s music to sweat to at a party. additionally, this package aims to capture a sense of timelessness through melody interwoven with a pumping breed of techno rhythms. the title track, homecoming, starts with a bottom-heavy percussive workout, then presses forward with an array of slowly filtering brighter synth stabs. the breakdown sees an arpeggiated synth slowly overtake the rhythm of the track just long enough to build tension and bring things back to full speed. the verge is a very stripped back, drum track style cruiser, which builds tension with a rising distorted pulse sound filtering in and out. just as it seems that the back half of the track will carry on as planned, a running melody comes in and changes the direction of the entire track. the verge (beat tool) is identical to the original, but build for those a little shy about slightly more upfront melodies.

bubble clocks opens with the sublime talking proud beautifully built around a vocal sample from one of jazz s undisputed greats, nina simone. the title track bubble clocks is over 9 minutes of dream psychedelic bass music. turn on, tune in, bliss out. punchlines is a rave/bass crossover peak time bomb, and output, the closing track is 10 minutes of totally individual vision, taking a convoluted idea and teasing it out in all its permutations. a major talent in the making who has been showing promise, delivers on this ep.

marquis hawkes returns with a new ep for houndstooth, sweet. pairing up a sugary r&b sample with his signature swinging but slamming beats, opening cut when i get home is a return to the flavour of last year s summer smash cant find a reason, although this time around, it s more tracky and introspective. next up, a different facet of hawkes production talents is reprised with at the witness stand, a trippy take on classic ny freestyle. opening the b-side, title track sweet furthers hawkes trademark rough and ready house sound with distinctive vocal hooks and a hip-twitching rhythm, whilst bringing up the rear, what a relief is a raw but inescapably funky drum workout that would make the likes of traxmen & eric martin proud.

food music welcomes a1 bassline to the label to release his first lp - technicality. the album’s title draws from the club night “technicality”, a monthly drum & bass night at herbal in east london, which is run by chris inperspective and continued the sound of early reinforced and metalheadz records as well as pushing new forward thinking music. the album is centred around growing up as a teenager discovering this jungle/drumfunk sound through his college friend rahim (lab creation), where the likes on fold, ben ufo, breakage would attend the club. in addition to well received records on dirtybird, pets recordings and his collaborative work with leon vynehall as laszlo dancehall, the album is a stamp on a1’s sound and his influences from his teenage years to growing up and discovering house and techno.

subversive delivers a follow-up to last season’s vrv release chainbreaker, this time with two measured explorations of atmosphere and movement. the title track, domestique, builds its drama around delayed synthesis, crafting a wash delayed environment that keeps a strong pace. corosync emerges from a similar approach but intensifies the drum programming and strips away melodic layers. vrv label bosses raíz rework corosync with emphasis on thicker beat construction and synthesized psychedelia. all the tracks play on the best of the detroit-berlin connection and are primed for in-the-mix hypnosis.

the two dirty birdies from hageby are back with the back in the day ep! the title cut flips a classic brooklyn funk sample into a deep house burner, last night really gives it to us (baby), and estrelar showcases the groovy disco side of the wo. rounding out the ep is a daniel leseman remix that reworks the title track into a completely fresh production, bringing the deep dance floor heat for which the fouk member and outplay records co-boss is known. all killa no filla!

a new four track ep by hexagon aka conforce on his own imprint. doing what he does best. making deep imaginary techno music with otherworldly authentic atmospheres without any concessions. the title track sucks you into desolate interstellar territories paying hommage to 606 rhythms with emotive strings on top that determine the total atmosphere of this killer advanced electro cut. human meets machine in it s purest form. pitch black leans on accurate programmed heavy broken percussive patterns and is the most functional track of the ep. functional but it s haunting atmosphere lifts this to a different dimension. continuum dives deeper into sonic territory with a mysterious stealth missional vibe caused by it s unpredictable sparkling crispy effects and mysterious pads. systematic repetition leans on pulsating modular bleeps and dubby basses and is the most techno orientated cut of the whole ep. it wouldn t be a conforce record if there weren t any strings and pads attached to it.

kyle geiger returns to droid recordings for a three-track suite of techno and rhythmic experiments, jupiter storm. a1 (jupiter, hydrogen edit) builds from a rumbling kick, slowly constructing a space of delayed tones and filtered noisse pressure aimed at the dancefloor. b1 (mars) takes things for a truly unexpected turn, borrowing some of jupiter’s sonic language and reformulating a triple-metered groove with waves of noise and distortion. the title track, jupiter storm (b2) brings the full kick back into the picture riding the mars rhythms against the standard kick for a track that’s driving and infectious.

ahead of their highly anticipated debut lp due on golf channel this fall, the berlin duo drop this little taster. the heavy, percussion driven analogue sound that is their trademark comes in two tight packages. the title track is all snaky rhythms and squelchy riffing and comes complete with exactly the kind of dense, break heavy remix that we would expect from compatriot, and top buddy of the band, wolf muller. flipside revanche is a sunnier affair, deft touches on the acoustic guitar and lighter percussion, but no less the party starter because of it. golf channel every time !

more abstract, forward thinking house music courtesy of transatlantyk. mondo hehe is the fifth ep in a growing catalogue of the label and is one of its most adventurous offerings yet. lutto lento (real name lubomir grzelak) is an experimental musician from warsaw, poland, who specialises in dark, spooky, uneasy music that s hard to categorise. apart from running two experimental cassette only labels (sangoplasmo and dunno recordings), lutto lento records music for contemporary theatre and forward thinking european labels like ftd and where to now? he is equally inspired by avant-garde and surreal sounds from the bygone eras as well as raw house and techno music of today. his music tends to absorb the listener into a parallel, imaginary world, where sounds of a lamenting cry of a trumpet (b2) and a voice counting numbers on top of the rolling exotica style bongos (a2) are as important as jacking chicago house drums (b1) and energetic basslines (a3). from the jumping beats of the title track, to the late night deep roller casino , the * mondo hehe ep* is a superb collection of non-generic house music that sounds as good at a club, as it does at home.

the title track * i wish* starts of the ep with its deep and fumy organ chords combined with filtered hats, clever vocal samples and harsh bass lines. next up on the a side you will find the pumping head nodder * holly fm*. swinging hats, guitar stabs, smooth pads with simple but very effective hook on top. the b side starts off with the slightly minimal track “keep on using me” (brother). this one with grim beats, organ pads, off beats punching in and out as the track steady builds with a rock solid perfectly tweaked bass. the last minutes on the b side is reserved for the dreamy yet hard hitting and raw gem * new toys*. pure basement love.

the first lady of watergate, la fleur, is back again with a massive three track ep titled make a move and, in true la fleur fashion, it bridges classic aesthetics with future concepts. by employing what is a uniquely la fleur palette of sound, she has created three distinctly individual cuts resulting in the perfect recipe for brilliant and undeniably body shaking dance floor burners. kicking things off is the title track make a move and it hits hard.

welcoming the fourth vinyl only instalment from farfromnormal features an excellent 3 track ep from the up and coming julian. after a long process julian has come up with 3 great original tracks which farfromnormal where happily to take on board and put together julian s very first vinyl release. this record grabs your attention from the start with track 1 resorave. resorave is a very psychedelic track with dark drums and beautiful slow atmospheres and a tripping vocal. track 2 grunge is much more on the groovy side to with fantastic production and pads that take you on a great journey. track 3 chorale is the title track and the one track to leave you on a high, with the heavy kicks and bass lines mixing between a tripping vocal and beautifully placed instruments, this is perfect for the peak hours.

the mysterious troy returns on dr with his second ep ever released. it seems like the perfect time for troys northbound ep, 4 very distinctive, cold, yet beautifully designed pieces, which perfectly underline the atmosphere this time of year.
on the a side, detail and evolution are the foundation of the lengthy *bh3*, which also futures a hard hitting remix by takaaki itoh from japan.
the b side features two more melodic cuts. *archer* stresses the journey into the cold, with its synth work nearing dissonance, while remaining in complex and admirable harmony. the title track *northbound* is a more straight forward loop, which builds up to something rather chilly and unheard before.

moscow label grow continues in fine creative form, seemingly not sticking to a motive or trend but rather concentrating on the strength of character within the music it releases. for the labels eighth release the artist is berlin based the marx trukker, who over the last 10 years has been developing his very distinct sound and recent output on labels like pluie/noir, the untold stories, and most recently noorden, have all been especially impressive. now on grow comes the 4 track vinyl * heavens crackling*, from the title one is expecting something awesome, and the album does not disappoint, right from the off, the first track: * a time well spent*, begins with celestial tones ringing out and the performance develops with great synth work, enlightened and very enlivening, spring is in step and something is beginning. the record continues at such a level throughout, overflowing with rich tones, warmth, and raw sounding percussion. in the second track, * all the boating still a tide to go*, deep warm bass and strings reverberate, as if amidst a hot harbours summer, then the ethereal synths return as magical breezes of cooling wind on a june day. on the bside comes the title track * heavens crackling*, the tone has cooled, there is an autumnal vibe, extended tones of an eerie but reassuring nature provide the ground, from under which a molten bass flows playfully. the final track, * i do anything but its so cold*, as the title would suggest, again time has passed, gone are the warm relaxed echoes of the the opening tracks, winter has come, and a strong percussive energy becomes the driving force of an especially deep and more introverted last track. in heavens crackling there is an uncanny understanding of time passing and representation of being, its present in the patience and performance within every track, and the effect of the album, which seems, like the seasons, to naturally come full circle, is for the listener indeed to experience a time well spent. top marks for the marx trukker!

andré laos second act on let s play house is a continuation of his first. like roundabout, nordic delight (the guy hails from gothenburg, so you can guess where the title originated), is sunny and bright piano laden house that s as melodious as it is layered and ornate. unlike that ep, though, this one really revolves around one track stroganoff which is presented in three different forms: a vocal mix, a piano stew dub, and a remix from anton klint of tiedye. supplementing and equalizing those is kalops, the 12inches second original.

having debuted on valcrond video label last year with the immured 12- under her familiar xosar alias, sheela rahman now returns to the platform for some shared make-believe with founder luke wyatt for new project body tools. taking a catalogue number as its title, this two track 12inch follows a succession of body tools radio broadcasts on berlin community radio and showcases a softer, more hypnotic side which in the case of lead track locusts & lions hits hard when the poignant piano makes its presence felt. brave channels a strange, modern kosmische vibe that will really hit the spot deep in the mix.

after making a great impression with its first ep, giant records serves up a second hot helping of house music from boss man grant dell, complete with fresh remixes by scottish techno stalwarts silicone soul. dell, also known as chicago transit authority, has been doing his do for 25 years now. as a dj he is at home in clubs in ibiza and barcelona as well as around the rest of europe, and is someone who always prefers to push his own brand of widely infused and influenced music than his own profile. once again here he comes up trumps with the emotive, glowing house cut ‘in your mind’. with a neat bassline and mid tempo house drums, subtle but effective synth smears add warmth and colour to the groove, whilst soul fuelled vocals add a real sense of personality. this is sure to get people grooving at any hour and comes with grant’s own space echo remix. as the title suggests it’s a more dubby and reverb rich affair with cosmic signifiers and sci-fi vibes pervading from start to finish. silicone soul need little introduction having been at the heart of real deep house and techno for decades on the soma label. their first remix is a darkroom dub - named after their own label - and is a seductively slo-mo and lazily unfolding house cut with languid synths that really suck you in. their lush hypnohouse mix is then a twinkling, late night bit of melodically rich deep house with starry skies twinkling above sombre chords. this is a patiently served but hugely alluring ep that is stuffed with plenty of tender feeling. one again then, both grant and giant have come up with the goods.

theyre young and tough, and especially wonderful too, easily one of the most compelling harmony soul groups to ever hail from the windy city! the sets a chicago soul gem from the early 70s, recorded with a laidback, slightly tripped-out vibe thats different than the tighter styles of other groups from the same scene, definitely righteous at points, with some of the superbad modes you might hear from an east coast lineup like the delfonics or soul generation, especially when they were trying to get a bit more conscious in their message. arrangements are great – handled by tom tom washington, eugene record, and cliff davis, very much at the best brunswick mode, but again with a deeper sort of vibe too. the title cuts a monster, and a very fitting follow-up to their earlier sly, slick, & wicked track – and the album features 2 versions (vocal and instrumental) of a cut called this is the lost generation, a very righteous soul groove with a heavy production tip.

three tracks here evoking familiar feelings heard before but still somehow they all sound fresh and drag you in wanting for more. as if this wouldn t do it, there is first but, not last appearance for barba label by mighty jtc who needs no further introduction delivering a remix. this time he cleverly uses sparse but recognizable parts of title track which he then transforms into relentless floor shaker where detroit meets chicago, if any such comparison needs to be made. aquatic stuff !

2015 repress. its been four years since my last own ep on stockholm ltd. the main reason for this is that i have been surrounded by music that has inspired me much more than my own. this ep was written and produced with strict narrow frames and a huge amount of frustration. i was tired of waiting for the inspiration to kick in, then suddenly it appeared with a strength that i havent felt for long time. im now curious for more. while sketching the title track, >wyatt arp<, i couldnt get detroit legend, terrence dixon, out of my mind. terrence is a long time hero of mine, and an artist that always stays on the true side of what we do while most of us occasionally leave our paths. i had to ask him to do a rework. / par grindvik

iyewaye, oliver koletzkis first release after the autobiographical i am ok album, introduced a new facet of the artist’s sound. the ep catered to a darker and more raw aesthetic, a direction followed and deepened by the four remixes. first up is the title track iyewaye, turned into a lengthy tech infused introspection by hatzler. loosely centered around the initial vocals, loco & jams makeover explores the tracks captivating snappy narrative. the more rhythm focused ipuza gets a special treatment from hidden empire who dial up the aggression of the percussion. zakari & blange downplay the tracks initial exotic elements, focusing on the rattling synths and giving it a late-night dancefloor rework.

flangers opens with the dark, gravelly, brooding, and heads down techno of the title track - a lengthy, spacious workout which manages still to cut a deep groove despite it s direct driving force. similarly, beast paces itself, slowly unfolding all of its treasures as it grows, swells and shapeshifts over the course of just over five minutes of sustained tension. on the flip, two heavyweight producers step up to the remix: germany s markus suckut and dutch producer, jeroen search. suckut s interpretation of flangers keeps much of the understated groove and tension of the original whilst dipping it in a more shrouded cloak of murky techno. jeroen search on the other hand pitches up the pace with a crisp, high-hat driven dive into the deep

belgian producer and owner of entrepot records, uc beatz, is the next artist to appear on the san jose label, roundabout sounds. coming out on vinyl only, the la nuit ep features some sublime house, including my favourite track on the ep, alta paper, and a remix of the title track by jeremiah of grow! records out of vienna. roundabout sounds which is now up to release number 14 with this ep, is the label run by joe babylon marougi, co-founder of plug research. the label released a great various artists triple vinyl package, connecting the compass, that featured such house luminaries marcellus pittman, norm talley and theo parrish, among others.

stepping up for the second ep on brame & hamos own imprint splendor & squalour is top boy hamo with his debut solo ep -the cotton club. with his partner brame he has already released staggering eps on dirt crew recordings and dam swindles own heist recordings. a fierce rise in the deep house community for sure! we already had a small taste of hamo s solo productions on the clockwerk ep that was released beginning of this year as the first ep on splendor & squalour. now we are giving you a full 5 tracker with a remix from box aus holz/ torben boy kickflip mike. the ep kicks off with title track - cotton club - a jazzy deep house jam, keeping the hip hop vibe present. up next is -wonce- which is a little bit more on the melodic side. we would also like to welcome more of our sligo family to the label with this side up, the hip hop trio is featured as third on the a side with the straight hip hop track in control. on to the b side we have the brilliant kickflip mike adding a much clubbier vibe to -wonce- a real early mornings bomb. to close the ep hamo has given us black lodge, a dusty house groover with delightful hi-hats and very clever sampling going on as in all his works, solo or with his homey brame.

timmy p has been releasing music since 2010, but releases on esteemed labels such as local talk and dirt crew have really made him catch the attention of the wider public and industry big hitters such as steve lawler, darius syrossian, sidney charles and waze & odyssey. timmy now steps up to the plate for belfast s seven music. the strong advice ep is some of his finest work to date. from the disco infused title track, through the vibey slug life to the moodier bla bla and all rounded of by one of the uk s hottest new names on the scene, montel on the remix.

we were very excited indeed to see the third release from the quite promising love notes from brooklyn imprint! marco zenin was a featured artist on the last release under his dj octopus guise, and this time he s featured again with his other project, the more techy/ more minimal die roh, who recently had an underground athem with their release on black venison. the duo here seemingly lean their sounds in the direction of the label s and offer two-cut ep which is their deepest effort yet to date. surely more djs will play the dancier a side, behind 6000, but for us, the groovier b side and title track genghis kahn is the choice cut. label owner, nathaniel jay, continues in the precendent he s set with each release having its own unique love note,authored by him, making every one of these records collectable.
